Proposal for the Organization of the
16th International Zeolite Conference
Sorrento - Naples, Italy July 4-9, 2010
Proposal presented by
Italian Zeolite Association (AIZ)
Interdivisional Group of Catalysis of the Italian Chemical Society (GIC-SCI)
Sorrento, Naples (Italy)
Founded by the Greeks, Sorrento is like a mosaic full of monuments, from the cathedral and its paintings by the Napoli’s school, to the delightful Arabic-style cloister. Sorrento also boasts many museums and archaeological sites. Nature is also closely linked to history. Rising up from the very edge of a tuff stone cliff, Sorrento is clearly identifiable by the colour of its time-honoured olive and walnut trees, and the perfume of its citrus orchards and lemon trees. Resting on the horizon is the Mount Vesuvius while just around the corner unfolds the breathtaking Amalfi coast. At a short boat ride are also two real Mediterranean gems: Ischia and Capri. A half hour by hydrofoil takes to the ancient heart of Napoli, buzzing with history, art and culture, and just drive a few kilometers to reach the world-famous archaeological site of Pompei, with its villas and frescoes.
Thanks to a wide network of connections, Sorrento can be reached by land, sea or sky. Visitors arriving by plane land at Napoli airport which has many daily international direct connections. From the airport, Sorrento may to reached by bus or taxi. A shuttle bus service from Napoli airport to Sorrento will be organized. An efficient hydrofoil service provides the 30-minute sea link between the ports of Napoli and Sorrento.
The Circumvesuviana railway system also connects Napoli railway Central station to Sorrento (travel time 1 h).
